Day Two: Afternoon update
Lunch was served, and the monkeys are happy. Connor took a 20 minute nap which gave us just enough time to do an activity from the activity can.
Today we did the "What's Missing" game.
Stuff you need:
- 10-20 small items from around the house
- tray or small area to put the items on
- small blanket or towel
- scrap paper and pen to keep score
How to play:
- arrange items on the tray or on the floor in a small area
- have one person be the "taker" everyone else are the "guessers"
- the "taker" counts to ten slowly while "guessers" try to memorize the items
- when the "taker" is done counting, cover up the items with the blanket or small towel
- have the "guessers" cover their eyes
- the "taker" then reaches under the blanket and pulls out one item from the tray
- after the item has been taken, uncover the tray and tell the "guessers" to uncover their eyes
- the first person to correctly guess "What's Missing?" wins that round
Notes:
- you may want to declare a winner at 5 points or it gets boring pretty fast
- if you want to play longer, then have some items to swap out to keep it "fresh"
- use the blanket or towel to keep little ones from peeking (you know they can be sneaky)
- if you have older kids then change the game to writing down the items from the tray that they can remember. Give them 30 seconds to memorize the items, cover them up for 5 minutes and see who can remember the most items.
Phoenix and I had a lot of fun with this game. She also has some new words to learn from the game. To improve her vocabulary and spelling, we are putting new words on index cards for her "key words". Whenever she asks how to spell something, then we add that word to the box. She is learning without knowing it!! Mom's can be sneaky too. For an end of the week activity we will be writing sentences with her key words. Thanks to her first grade teacher Mrs. Kendall for teaching her that last year.
She finished her zone work and earned herself 2 more FLYdollars. She isn't doing so well with drinking her water today, but it takes 21 days to create a habit. We still have time :-)
Ok, that's it for now. Please leave a comment for Phoenix to read. She is really excited about camp and hearing from family and friends would really make her smile!!
